Firm Foundation

I never thought much about the importance of a firm foundation until I was having a house built. This was new for me, and in Texas there seemed to be challenges in laying a lasting foundation. If that foundation is not right, it is going to cost you.

The Bible does a really good job of wanting us to understand the importance of having a firm foundation. A foundation that would allow us to stand no matter what comes our way. Life is going to happen to us. Hard times and difficult situations will present themselves. What we want is a firm foundation, and that foundation is Jesus Christ.

Most Christians would say yes, that’s a no-brainer. Most Christians assume that because they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, that they will not fall. We can fall. We do not fall all the way to hell, but our fall will be noticeable.  We will see it, and so will those around us. There are a lot of great examples in the Bible. Matthew 7:24, where Jesus told us to build our houses on the rock, and also when Peter declared that Jesus is the rock in Matthew 6:18. There was also an example where Peter got out of the boat and walked on water, not because the water was walkable, but because his eyes were on Jesus our rock (Matthew 14:29).

The foundation that I stand on is that of Jesus Christ, and the relationship of an unbreakable covenant. He wanted us to be rooted in His love and confident and secure in His character.  He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  Jesus Christ will never reject us.

My testimony is that, during my divorce I kept my eyes on Jesus. I never needed to try and save myself. Jesus Christ saved me and He did a perfectly good job. I experienced His goodness every day. I was confident in His love for me. I was secure in my relationship with Him. I knew He would never let me go. It is that kind of relationship that kept me from falling. Jesus Christ is my firm foundation, and I give Him all the glory.
