Holiness Matters

There is no one that would not choose to be whole. Do we understand why? Do we know what it means to be whole? I have experienced brokenness. It wasn’t always obvious, but there were times that my emotions screamed, my body didn’t want to obey and my spirit was no longer leading.
I desire as a believer to be whole: spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). After salvation my spirit man is now perfect. My soul and body need to come into alignment with my now born again spirit. Jesus Christ was whole or what we would call holy. Jesus gave us a way to be dead to sin and fully alive to God (Romans 6:6-9). This is why holiness matters. “To a pure heart sin is disgusting”. George MacDonald.
I desire to get across to my heart and yours that we cannot experience wholeness apart from being holy. Holiness is God’s unique and morally pure nature that distinguishes us from sin and the common. Being holy is not a religious goal but it is who we become in our spirit at salvation. There is nothing sinful or common about our born again spirit. Our spirit is identical to Jesus’. If we don’t desire to be who we truly are in the spirit, our soul and bodies will experience spiritual brokenness, ruin, and despair. “We all want to be whole but struggle with the holiness part.” John Eldridge
