Trust the Truth

How important should the truth be to you? Truth is powerful. Truth is freedom. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).

I was encouraged this week by two different sermons*. One sermon was regarding the truth and the other was about a scripture that we struggle to believe.

I grew up around a lot of negativity (murmuring and complaining). I also heard sermons about bad days are coming, so I expected it. It caused me to complain about everything to everyone. It was normal to hear a lot of fearful talk, which is why I hardly ever watch the news. Like most people I took negative things seriously (subconsciously proving the preacher right). Not understanding I was affecting my heart so negatively that death and not life came from my mouth thus causing more bad days.

Jesus came to give us life and that in abundance (John 10:10). If we do not believe it we will not expect it. We will speak contrary to it. From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45).

There is a scripture that is absolutely awesome but we don’t live it out. We have the gospel. The gospel means, almost too good to be true news. Yet, we have limited it or as I learned, diluted it to where no one is being set free. I Peter 3:10 says, “He who would love life and see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.” As believers we should love our lives. We should expect good days. If we have a problem, trust that Jesus is the answer. If He said it, it’s true, for in Him there is no deceit (Numbers 23:19, Hebrews 6:18). Trust the truth. All your words are true (Psalm 119:160).

~Starve your fears and feed your faith, and life giving words will come forth out of your mouth.
