Thirsty

“Then (the rich man) he cried out, and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ (Luke 16:24) The only thing anyone of us would ever want if we were in hell is water.

In hell, you will not want a car, you won’t want to go to a concert, you won’t want a new dress, a boyfriend, a wife, chocolate, or whatever your favorite thing is to eat or do. The only thing you want in hell is water, and not just water, but living water (Jesus).

Why? Will it be because you are hot? No. Water represents life. Jesus answered, and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,‘ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” (John 4:10) There is no life without Jesus. Living water is mentioned eight times in scripture.

If you have Jesus, you have life. If we are thirsty, it’s because we don’t believe He has given us the power to never ever be thirsty again. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart (belly) will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)  We are always thinking that things or people will satisfy us, but the ability to be satisfied is within us. He, the Holy Spirit, is within us. When we pray, life springs out from within us, and it’s always more than enough, no matter our outward state.

And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. (Revelation 22:17b)

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:2,3)

Thirsty is defined in this context as a strong desire or craving for something; a thirst for knowledge, affection, sexual attention, approval,  etc.
